Support Team Salute

April 16, 2011 –

I am running two of my races this year for a phenomenal organization called SALUTE. Both my 10 Mile Soldier Field Run and Chicago Triathalon will be to raise funds for this organization. My sister is a member of Salute and has introduced me to the wonderful people who started this mission. To donate to this wonderful cause, head over to my page HERE. I will be training and pushing my body to the limit for those who have sacrificed for all of us. If you want to be inspired, you need to hear some of the unbelievable stories of these true heros and how we can help!

Here is Salute’s mission and history followed by promo clip about the organization.

Mission

SALUTE, INC. passionately pursues meeting the financial, physical and emotional needs of military service members, veterans and their families. We strive to raise awareness of their sacrifices and provide a safety net to ensure every military family is treated with honor and dignity.

The History of SALUTE, INC.

SALUTE, INC. was founded in 2003 by Will and Mary Beth Beiersdorf of Arlington Heights, Illinois.

Shortly after 9/11, Will, a Naval Reservist, was called to active duty and deployed to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba for thirteen months. The severe financial impact his deployment had on his family came as a startling revelation.

While Will was serving in Cuba, Mary Beth was overwhelmed with the magnitude of what she and their three sons were facing. In addition to the lack of finances, Mary Beth and her children coped with the fear of the unknown and the emotional strain caused by their separation from Will.

With the help, support and outpouring of love from family, friends, their church and their community, they were able to survive. Upon Will’s return, both he and Mary Beth felt the need to “give back” by helping others who were experiencing similar hardships.

In 2003, they decided to start an organization whose fundraising efforts would be based around a yearly Memorial Day Family Run/Walk. After sharing their vision with family, friends and pooling their resources, Salute was born!

SALUTE, INC. is now a recognized 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that provides financial support for our military men and women through a variety of fundraising activities.

Thank you Derek! It is a wonderful organization. I have never run over an 8K. But I am really getting my mileage up (ran 8.9 miles today). It is amazing what kind of condition these programs leave you in. I only started running 4 weeks ago. A plan on using my 10 mile race in late Mate as one of the “Sports Performance” benchmarks Shaun T is looking for. I look forward to keeping in touch. Good luck to you as well Derek!

What a great organization; thanks for doing this, Coach. Are you doing P90X/Insanity in addition to your running? Yikes!

Hey Steve. This is such an amazing org and I could not be prouder to run for the,. And Yes, I am actually doing the ASYLUM CHALLENGE starting on May 1, which leads up to the 10 mile race on May 28. So I will be doing some doubles of ASYLUM and running longer distances. Then once I make it through May, I have my first triathalon at the end of June. Crazy? Maybe. Insane? Definitely! :)

If there is one things these programs have taught me is that consistency is the key to success. My training is not starting from no exercise. Come on, we are doing hard core workouts everyday. So it is really just tweaking your training regiment to over index where you need to. What program is you favorite Steve?
