Excuses

May 9, 2011 –
Ah, Excuses. We all have them. We have lists that unscroll and hit the floor. It reminds of a classic scene from the Blues Brothers where Jake is trying to explain why he missed his wedding day.

“Locusts!” Hilarious! Well, Jake was able to talk himself out of that one to live another day. All of us on the other hand, don’t get off so easy. The most important thing in helping yourself eliminate excuses is to set a goal and then determine where it sits in your priorities. For most of us, time is our most precious commodity. There is simply not enough time in the day to do everything you want. And that is when you need to look at your priorities. If your health and fitness goal is important, then it needs to rise to the top of your list. You need to make conscious efforts to make this a priority in your life.

One of the ways that I made time for my workouts was to wake up earlier. I know that once my day gets going, it is nearly impossible to carve out time to do my workout. I need to get in front of my day. So that meant waking up earlier. Now, we have all been there. The alarm rings and you think, “Are you kidding me?”. It is so tempting to roll over and catch another 60 minutes of sleep. But remember the goals you set for yourself. Remember what your priorities are.  I have never once regretted waking up and working out over sleeping in. By the time I am done, my blood is moving, my body feels great, my mind is focused, and I am ready for the day.

When we hit a stumbling block on the road to our goals, let’s just own up to it. Let’s not make excuses. Something else won out that day. You have tomorrow. However, don’t let one hiccup ruin your plan.  Don’t let anything come between you and your goals. Take personal responsibility for owning it. And when you succeed in you reaching your goals, you’ll know that you can do ANYTHING if you put your mind to it.
