Artic Zero Review

September 19, 2011 –

If there is one soft spot I have, it is ice cream. I can overlook cookies, brownies, cake, and every other sweet. But when Ice Cream comes out, I get weak in the knees. I actually bring my kids to Diary Queen without getting anything and then make Shakeology when I get home. And Shakeology is a great substitute for a frozen treat.

On one of the many Facebook groups I belong to, someone mentioned Artic Zero. 150 calories a pint and the ingredients actually look like stuff I have heard of. I appreciate the fact that they have a very detailed description of the different key ingredients on their website. (Click HERE.)

– The primary ingredient is a very high quality whey protein concentrate (>13g per pint)

– They use chicory root for added fiber (8g per pint)

– It is sweetened with organic cane sugar and monk fruit concentrate. This combination of ingredients allowed them to drop the fat and sugar content by 30%. And while 20g of sugar per pint is not necessarily low, it is ALOT better than the 60g of sugar in an equivalent serving size of Edy’s Grand Ice Cream. And they are not using nearly natural ingredients either.

You can see all the ingredients for each flavor at the bottom of my post.

Unfortunately, Artic Zero is very hard to find.  You can order it on Amazon, but dry ice shipping is not necessarily cheap. They do have  a store finder HERE. We were finally near a Whole Foods store that had it a couple of weekends ago, so I bought every flavor they had: Chocolate, Vanilla Maple, and Cookies n’ Cream. That’s all they had left.

I don’t remember the exact cost at Whole Foods but I want to say they were about $4.69 / pint. Not cheap by any means. But you pay for quality and a nichier product. And frankly, not much different than Ben & Jerry’s.

My favorite flavor was Chocolate. It is definitely the smoothest of the 3 flavors I tried. Vanilla Maple tasted as it sounds “Vanilla combined with a Maple Syrup flavor”. It had a nice distinctive taste but came out more in chunks than the Chocolate. Cookies n’ Cream was okay. Probably the least favorite but still good. Similar to Vanilla Maple, it seemed to come out chunkier than the smooth feel of the chocolate.

Overall, I am very happy with the product. It is obviously not an everyday treat (that’s my Shakeology), but if you are craving ice cream, this is a phenomenal and healthier alternative. It is expensive, but worth it for an “every now and then” treat.

Nice. I thought I was the only one that actually understood the brilliance of this product. Quite the thorough review, thanks for posting it. Surprisingly though, the one flavor I haven’t tried is the chocolate. My favorites are the mint chocolate, coffee, and vanilla maple.

Jen – I havent had the PB, but I did find the Mint once. Oh my! It is well worth searching for it.
