Be Prepared

There are certain things I have learned that have really helped me stay true to my P90X lifestyle and “Being Prepared” is probably the biggest. Here is real world example that happened today.

I knew we were going to be in an all day meeting today where lunch was going to be served. My initial reaction pre-P90X would have been “Oh, FREE lunch!” But I had no idea what they were going to have so I made my ultimate veggie bean salad with an apple and a handful of almonds like I do everyday. Lunch comes and what healthy choice is there waiting for everyone? Rosati’s Pizza! Now this used to be a favorite of mine in pre P90X days. But I went upstairs, got my salad, brought it down, and ate nature’s best.

And you know what? I was not even tempted by the pizza. Not at all. For many of you starting out, it is important to know that your taste buds will change. I ate so much sugar, fat, and salt that I needed to have more and more of it to get a satisfactory taste. When you remove that, your taste buds readjust. I like plain ole’ almonds. No oil. No salt. Just almonds. I truly enjoy the taste. It is amazing to me how great whole food tastes. I do not enjoy processed food nor I will eat them because they are free and available.

Morale of the Story – Be Prepared. Don’t be a victim to the food others are eating or to food that is available to you for free. Eat Healthy. Stay true to yourself and your goals. If people say something, it is probably because they have their own issues. “Wow Mike, that wasn’t on the menu. Eating healthy today, huh?” In which my response is “Yes!” Be proud of your lifestyle change and you might be surprised how many people want to follow you!
