Food Revolution – Episode 3 (Season 1)

August 11, 2011 –

I have really enjoyed Jamie Oliver’s Revolution and decided to write a review on each of the episodes. For my previous reviews, see the links below.

We take a break from our elementary school and move onto the local high school. Guess which line is massively long at lunch hour? The french fry line of course. I remember the french fries at my high school were either hot and undercooked or cold and overcooked. LOL!

I thought Jamie’s approach here was very smart. His job was to recruit students and get them on his side. He then takes those kids, given them some rudimentary cooking lessons, and comes up with another great idea. Why not host all the elite (including a senator) for a dinner, pretend he made the dinner, but actually have the kids make the dinner. This will help him raise required money to get more cooks to help him make his new school lunch menu. 80 meals is not an easy thing to make for an experienced adult cook. Some TV drama ensues, but the kids ultimately pull it off!

Britanny is the one to root for in this episode and am hopefully to see her turn things around.

Like the elementary school, Jamie changes up the menu in the high school. I love that he creates a dish with a ton of veggies yet they tell him he does not have enough veggies. Their solution? Put some french fries on the plate because those count as veggies. Um…what? Yes America, these are the rules today for a reimbursement meal.

I loved this series when it aired last year. Really phenomenal stuff he’s doing to help people realize that they CAN and SHOULD eat better.
