SunWarrior Protein

September 7, 2012 –

I used Whey Protein exclusively for the first couple years of my Life Balance journey. (I did a review of some different Whey Proteins HERE.) And while Shakeology Chocolate and Greenberry both contain Whey Protein, the new Vegan Chocolate and Vegan Tropical Strawberry contain plant-based protein.

As I switched primarily to a Vegan diet back in October 2011, I wanted to move more of my protein supplements to plant-based. SunWarrior was recommended to me by Melissa Costello (Tony Horton’s Chef and the person who first introduced me to Vegan Eating with her Vital Cleanse).

Since that time I have been using SunWarrior as my primary protein supplement. However, I still take some Whey Protein with the  P90X Results & Recovery formula and I am uses the Body Beast – Base Shake for 90 Days while doing that program.

What Kind Of Protein is in SunWarrior?

There are 2 variants of SunWarrior Protein and each come in 3 flavors: Chocolate, Vanilla, and Natural. The primary source of protein for each of the variants are:

1) Classic – Raw Sprouted Whole Grain Brown Rice Protein

2) Warrior Blend – Raw Organic Cranberry Protein, Raw Pea Protein, Raw Hemp Protein

Warrior Blend

How do I use SunWarrior?

I have tried both proteins and in fact switch off between them to give my body a variety of protein sources. While I have made shakes soley with SunWarrior, I currently use it to as an “added protein boost” to my Shakeology. For example, when doing Body Beast, I added 1 Scoop of Chocolate Warrior Blend and 1 Scoop of Natural Classic to my Vegan Shakeology. Each scoop gives me an extra 16g of pure plant-based protein. So add on the 16g of protein in Vegan Shakeology and that is a total of 48g of protein.

The Taste of SunWarrior

Whey Protein is smoother than Plant-Based Protein. I don’t think many would argue with that. Plant-Based Protein has been described as gritty and chaulky.  I have found that adding some Unsweetened Almond Milk and a banana really helps. I will say that Beachbody did a great job on Vegan Shakeology and it is smoother than Sunwarrior. And even when I add SunWarrior into Vegan Shakeology, it does not seem to alter the texture too much for me.

I have been using it for a while so like all things, you get used to it. If you are just coming off Whey Protein, then the texture will be different. But if you give it a week, you will get used to it.

Final Thoughts

When I used to buy my Whey Protein, I would see a bunch of other ingredients in there. Some were good, some were questionable. What I like about SunWarrior is that even in the Chocolate and Vanilla versions, the ingredients are very minimal and I know what they all are!

I do believe in their products and do recommend them to the team. As a result, I have become an affiliate for them. If you are interested in buying SunWarrior Protein, Click HERE or the “10-20% Off” picture below.
